Our Story

The story of Stonehouse 27 begins over 500 years ago when Portuguese settlers first arrived on India's western coast in their search of the world's finest spices. Towards the latter part of the 17th Century, the British established Bombay as the main port of entry and along with the spice trade came the spread of Christianity. Europe's continued love affair with India spawned a co-mingled and distinct race that later came to be referred to as the Anglo-Indian community.

Anglo-Indian cuisine evolved to spice up the bland flavors of traditional British recipes brought from the West. Before long, once forbidden foods within other religions became mainstreams with the Christian population. Items such as beef, pork and the abundantly available seafood emerged in the new culinary trend that was originating. A trend that truly incorporated the best of the Eastern flavors with the West — a cuisine distinctive in its own right.

This is the cuisine I grew up on; enjoying the savory flavors of fresh meats prepared with the fragrant spices we bought from the colorful vendors at the local spice market. Little did I know that the time spent around my mother in her kitchen surrounded by these exotic aromas would one day turn into a labor of love and the beginning of a new journey. Leaving behind a successful career in Technology and Management Consulting, I decided to follow my passion for providing family and friends my own home cooked creations.

Stonehouse 27 Spice Co was born out of that simple idea and founded to provide cuisine inspired by my Portuguese and British Indian heritage; the name coined to reflect just that. Stonehouse is an ancestral name that pays homage to the Colonial aspect of my roots while the number 27 represents the number of spices in a traditional, Portuguese inspired blend that I use in my modern yet authentic recipes.

At Stonehouse 27, we believe that great cuisine should not contain anything artificial. We also cook with no added salt, use diabetic friendly low glycemic agave nectar instead of refined sugars, and use only canola oil, a heart healthy oil that is lowest in saturated fat among other cooking oils.

The inspiration behind my premier line was to find a way to share the home made experience of my unique creations through the combination of sophisticated spices, fresh herbs and produce. What resulted was a handcrafted cooking sauce that was all-natural, quick and easy to prepare and truly delicious!

For years I have shared these recipes with friends and family all over the world, and today I am honored to be sharing them with you. I hope that you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed the journey of bringing them to you.
